Homeless Outsourcing
Re “ ‘Outsourcing’ of Homeless Stirs Intercity Debate,†Nov. 27: Los Angeles City Councilwoman Jan Perry is right to demand compensation from cities that use Los Angeles social services. If it has proved to be politically impossible to find a site that the Santa Clarita City Council will accept as a winter shelter, minimally the obligation it has is not only to pay for transport to where the homeless will find shelter but also to spend the money previously spent operating the shelter on the charities in Los Angeles, where the homeless will now stay. This will, at a minimum, ensure that the L.A. homeless are not hurt by the move. Perhaps these costs will encourage a more permanent solution for the homeless within Santa Clarita.
