Nothing Has Changed in Angel Controversy

Arte Moreno is more brilliant than Bill Veeck or Charlie Finley. Through rumor and innuendo, he has managed to keep his team the focus of media attention simply by suggesting a name change.

Fans are protesting, elementary school kids are writing letters. The newspapers have devoted numerous inches of column space to the topic. Talk radio nationally has debated the issue. Two city councils have spent and will spend more hours discussing ways to thwart such nonsense. People all over the state are talking about the Anaheim Angels.

All for no cost to Arte.

Marketing professors around the country should applaud. Moreno never had any intention of changing the team’s name, just wanted to keep the pot boiling. Incredibly brilliant.

Mr. Moreno should take a tip from realtors who use creative writing in newspaper ads when they have listings in not-so-desirable neighborhoods, and call his team the Los Angeles-Adjacent Angels.
