Leaking Natural Gas Forces Residents Out
From Times Staff Reports
About 50 people were evacuated Friday when a construction crew repairing utility lines on Seashore Drive ruptured a 4-inch natural gas line.
Construction crews and firefighters began evacuating residences between 56th and 57th streets about 8:15 a.m. as well as people at the adjacent tennis courts on Pacific Coast Highway and a few beachgoers.
The Gas Co. stopped the leak shortly after noon and residents returned to their homes.
