Forward Keefe Commits to UCLA
James Keefe of Santa Margarita, a 6-foot-8 junior forward who is considered the top college basketball prospect in Southern California in his class, announced Thursday that he had committed to UCLA.
Keefe, who averaged 10 points and 10 assists as a sophomore, was a critical recruit for Bruin Coach Ben Howland because of his size and rebounding ability.
Girls Volleyball
The City Section title games in both divisions will take place tonight at Occidental College.
In the Championship division final, fourth-seeded Venice, which upset top-seeded Carson in the semifinals on Tuesday, will meet third-seeded San Pedro, which scored an upset of second-seeded Harbor City Narbonne in the semifinals, at 8.
Sylmar and Woodland Hills El Camino Real will meet in the Invitational division final, which begins at 5:30. Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for students with ID and $3 for children under 12.
The Venice-San Pedro match will be televised on a tape-delayed basis by LA36 at 10 Friday night, 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Saturday and 9 p.m. on Sunday. The match will be shown at 8 a.m. Saturday by KLCS 58.
Football
Coach Marijon Ancich recorded his 338th victory when Santa Fe Springs St. Paul defeated host Mission Hills Alemany, 49-13, Friday night. The victory tied Ancich with Herb Meyer for most wins by a high school football coach in the state.
Ancich will have a chance to take over the top spot tonight, when St. Paul (7-3) plays host to Crescenta Valley (5-5) in a first-round game of the Southern Section playoffs.
