Vending Permits Will Sell Out Venice Beach

Re “Permit System Imposed on Venice Beach Sellers,” Oct. 28: So now it begins -- the lawsuits from artists deprived of making a living, the resistance from those already on the Venice boardwalk, the scorn directed toward the L.A. City Council for taking the spontaneous color out of a world-famous tourist attraction.

And when the public and media wake up to find their beloved Venice Beach destroyed, they will ask the question, “Why on Earth did you do this?” The answer was given at City Hall, just before the council’s fateful vote: “Well, we have to do something!” They shot an elephant gun at a rabbit, and they will now find that there is nothing attractive left. Anyone who loves Venice Beach should be outraged.
