* Former American Airlines Chairman and Chief Executive Donald J. Carty would become chairman and an investor of Hawaiian Airlines if it emerges from bankruptcy protection under a reorganization plan by the carrier’s parent company.
* Vans Inc., which makes shoes for skateboarding and other sports, reported a profit of $7.1 million, or 39 cents a share, for its fiscal third quarter, reversing a loss of $9.2 million a year earlier.

* Lenders have foreclosed on a natural gas-fired power plant in Mississippi, taking possession from a unit of PG&E; Corp. after the plant attracted no outside bidders. Attala Generating Co., which owned the plant, is a unit of PG&E;’s National Energy & Gas Transmission Inc., which filed for bankruptcy protection last year.
