Dear SOS: Awhile back I was at the Edendale Grill in Silver Lake for a birthday celebration. We were served a very simple Waldorf salad that was light and delicious. Can you get that recipe?

Dear Maggie: Patti Peck, executive chef, was happy to share the traditional recipe she uses, which is based on the original from the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York.
Total time: 15 minutes
Servings: 4
1/4cup mayonnaise
1/4cup sour cream
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 cup apples, diced small
1 cup celery, diced small
1/2 cup walnuts, coarsely chopped
1 head butter lettuce, leaves washed and trimmed
1. Combine the mayonnaise, sour cream and lemon juice.
2. In a separate bowl, combine the apples and celery. Stir the mayonnaise mixture into the apples and celery.
3. Spoon into lettuce cups or onto a bed of lettuce leaves. Sprinkle with the walnuts and serve.
Each serving: 257 calories; 4 grams protein; 10 grams carbohydrates; 3 grams fiber; 24 grams fat; 4 grams saturated fat; 14 mg. cholesterol; 114 mg. sodium.
