Soldiers Accidentally Kill Police, Civilians

Soldiers searching for rebels in rural southwestern Colombia accidentally ambushed a police unit, killing seven police officers and four civilian prisoners, police said.
Preliminary reports indicated that police had just arrested four suspected criminals and were taking them to the city of Pasto when they were attacked by the soldiers, who believed they were rebels.
Authorities were investigating the incident, which occurred in a rural area outside Guaitarilla in Narino province, southwest of the capital, Bogota.
