Military Deaths
The Defense Department last week identified the following American military personnel killed in Iraq and Kuwait:
Edward W. Brabazon, 20, of Philadelphia; specialist, Army. Brabazon died Tuesday of a nonhostile gunshot wound in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, N.C.
Richard S. Gottfried, 42, of Lake Ozark, Mo.; sergeant first class, Army. Gottfried was killed Tuesday when he was struck by an improvised explosive device northeast of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Division Support Command, 1st Infantry Division, Kitzengen, Germany.
Michael J. Gray, 32, of Richmond, Va.; petty officer second class, Navy. Gray was killed March 5 while traveling to Kuwait Navy Base when his vehicle was rear-ended by a civilian vehicle. He was assigned to Navy Detachment Kuwait Navy Base.
Bert E. Hoyer, 23, of Ellsworth, Wis.; private first class, Army Reserve. Hoyer was killed Wednesday when an improvised explosive device struck his convoy in Baqubah, Iraq. He was assigned to the 652nd Engineer Company, Army Reserve in Ellsworth, Wis.
Gussie M. Jones, 41, of Louisiana; captain, Army. Jones died March 7 of a noncombat cause in Baghdad. As a medical surgical nurse in support of area operations, he was assigned to the 31st Combat Support Hospital at Ft. Bliss, Texas.
Matthew G. Milczark, 18, of Kettle River, Minn.; private first class, Marine Corps. Milczark died Monday in a noncombat-related incident at Camp Victory, Kuwait. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, 1st Marine Division at Camp Pendleton.
