Norman Is Disqualified; Pettersson Adds to Lead
Greg Norman, making his 2004 PGA Tour debut, looked as though he might make the cut in the Honda Classic at Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., until he hit a provisional ball on the 13th hole fearing his tee shot was in a hazard.
Players are not allowed to hit provisional shots unless the ball is believed to be lost or out of bounds, and Norman -- who shot a par 72 in the first round -- wound up disqualifying himself.
Meanwhile, Carl Pettersson continued to make it look easy with a four-under-par 68 that gave him a three-shot lead -- the largest 36-hole margin on the PGA Tour this year.
“I’ve never had a 36-hole lead,” Pettersson said. “We’ll see what happens.”
Pettersson was at 13-under 131. He had a two-shot lead after the first round with a 63.
Tied for second at 134 were Brad Faxon and Todd Hamilton, who each shot 66 Friday.
Fredrik Jacobson of Sweden had a 69 and was at 136, while the large contingent at 138 included Davis Love III, Fred Couples and Jesper Parnevik.

Karen Stupples, an admirer of English golf icon and countrywoman Laura Davies, will be playing in the same threesome with her for the first time.
Stupples shot a four-under 66 to lead the Welch’s/Fry’s Championship at Tucson by one shot over Davies and Jung Yeon Lee. Stupples, who has never finished higher than third on the LPGA Tour, followed her career-best 63 Thursday with a four-birdie performance in the second round to reach 11-under 129.
“I’m enjoying my golf right now,” Stupples said. “I’m enjoying every shot and the challenge that every shot brings, and I think that’s really making a difference in my game.”
Davies had her second straight 65, and Lee struggled to a 70 after shooting a 60 in the first round --the second-lowest in LPGA Tour history.
Aree Song, a 17-year-old rookie bidding to become the youngest LPGA tournament winner ever, shot 64 -- the best round of the day -- and was six shots back at 135.
