City Council Votes to Extend Shelter Program
From Times Staff Reports
The City Council voted Friday to provide $1.7 million to extend its emergency shelter program for the homeless until at least June 14, with hopes of finding money to keep the shelters open year-round.
The emergency shelters previously were funded only during the winter months when it was cold and wet, but the city has been looking for money to keep the shelter beds available past this month and decided to tap funds from the city housing programs.
