Streisand to be Stiller’s ‘parent’

Barring any last-minute snags, Barbra Streisand is set to play Ben Stiller’s mom opposite Dustin Hoffman as his father in “Meet the Fockers,” the sequel to the comedy “Meet the Parents,” Universal Pictures said Friday.

Streisand and the previously announced Hoffman join Stiller and cast members from the original film: Teri Polo, who played his fiance the first time out, with Robert De Niro and Blythe Danner as her parents.

Although Streisand has served as a producer on various projects, she has not appeared in a movie since “The Mirror Has Two Faces” in 1996, also the last feature film she directed.

“Meet the Fockers,” directed by Jay Roach and written by Jim Herzfeld, Tim Rasmussen and Vince DiMeglio, is scheduled to open Dec. 22.
