Aqueduct Field Has Class

Some professional race horses will be getting together in today’s eighth race, a $52,000 optional claimer at six furlongs, at Aqueduct.

The seven entrants -- Black Silk, Brucker’s Brother, Out Of Fashion, Alex’s Pal, Spooky Mulder, Secret Run and Aggadan -- have combined to win 52 in 196 starts and earn more than $1.6 million.

Spooky Mulder, a 6-year-old gelded son of Brunswick, leads the group with 14 victories in 32 starts.

Co-owned and trained by Scott Lake, Spooky Mulder has won three of his last four and has been worse than second only once in seven starts since being claimed by his current connections for $25,000 last Oct. 10 at Keeneland.

A 4-year-old gray son of End Sweep, Secret Run has won four of five since being claimed for $40,000 by trainer Frank Laboccetta Jr. for a partnership Oct. 17 at Belmont Park. Secret Run looks like the speed of the field under jockey Norberto Arroyo Jr.

Black Silk, who used to race in California for trainer Eduardo Inda, has improved since going east. The 8-year-old Zafonic gelding has won three times in New York.

Race of the day: Cousineau, who won at first asking on the Santa Anita turf course Nov. 6, will make her first start since finishing fifth in the Miesque Nov. 28 in today’s seventh, a $49,000 optional claimer at about 6 1/2 furlongs on the grass, at Santa Anita. Corey Nakatani will ride the Stravinsky filly for owner J. Paul Reddam and trainer Craig Dollase.

One for the road: Lifestyle, a $1.1-million yearling purchase, will make his debut for trainer and co-owner Wesley Ward in today’s eighth at Gulfstream Park. The Indian Charlie colt had trained well at Santa Anita before shipping to Florida.

Exotically speaking: A pick three using Twelve Volt Man in the first, Glick and Hemet Thought in the second and Irish Ty, Grey Misty, Taquito and Traffic Update in the third.
