Celebrations Sparkle on the Fourth of July
- Share via
Congratulations to the libertarian-minded citizens of Buena Park in the crushing defeat of Measure D on Tuesday, which would have banned safe and sane fireworks on the Fourth of July; 60% voted to keep fireworks legal. Here in Huntington Beach, fireworks are not legal but are virtually everywhere. Police are loath to arrest families traditionally celebrating personal freedom and liberty in America. (It kind of sends the wrong message.)
At least 60% of Huntington Beach residents also oppose the ban on fireworks. Local nonprofit organizations suffer revenue losses. Our civic leaders lack the courage to place the issue on the November ballot. After all, they know what is best for us. How ironic is it that our Big Brother government can no longer trust the people with a sparkler, but does trust us with a gun.
