6 Indicted in Alleged Inglewood Prostitution
The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office unsealed an indictment Wednesday accusing six people of conducting prostitution in Inglewood under the guise of acupressure massage.
The indictment stemmed from an investigation by state education officials of a Los Angeles massage therapy school run by one of the defendants.
Sheriff’s investigators served search warrants at several locations in September, including JHJ Education College, Oriental Acupressure in Inglewood and the homes of some of the suspects, according to the district attorney’s office.
Investigators recovered $2.4 million in cash and evidence that led to the case being taken to the Los Angeles County Grand Jury, prosecutors said.
Authorities said many of the massage technicians employed by Oriental Acupressure were working under fraudulently obtained certificates declaring them qualified technicians.
All six pleaded not guilty and were freed, either on bail or their own recognizance. They are due in Los Angeles Superior Court for a pretrial hearing July 21.
