More Airtime for the Angels
Channel 9 is expected to announce next week that it will add a significant number of games to its Angel broadcast schedule this year, sources said Thursday.
The station will air more than the minimum 40 games required by its contract with the Angels, one source said. The Angels are pushing for Channel 9 to air as many as 60 games; the station is reluctant to go beyond 50.
The Angels also are trying to persuade Fox Sports Net to air more than the 50 games mandated under its contract. Every American League team broadcasts more games than the 90 guaranteed to the Angels.
The Dodgers air a minimum of 130 games, with 50 on Channel 5 and 80 on Fox Sports Net 2. The team is negotiating to add broadcasts this year, Dodger spokesman Derrick Hall said Thursday.
