Bail Denied for Former Guantanamo Translator

A former translator at the U.S. naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, who was arrested last fall with secret documents in his luggage, was ordered held without bail until his trial.
Ahmed Fathy Mehalba, an Egyptian-born U.S. citizen, had “no incentive” to remain in the country and if freed on bail would probably flee to Egypt, where his parents live, a federal judge in Boston concluded.
Mehalba, 31, a civilian, was arrested at a Boston airport. He has pleaded not guilty to charges related to the case.
