Univision CEO Gives $10,000 to Troubled Zoo
A former Fresno resident who enjoyed the zoo when he was a young boy with little money -- and who now is a Los Angeles media mogul -- gave $10,000 to the Chaffee Zoo this week, raising the total donations and pledges to nearly $180,000.
Univision CEO Jerry Perenchio was moved by a 9-year-old girl’s efforts to save the zoo, which may lose its accreditation if it is not able to raise the funds for necessary maintenance.
Perenchio’s donation was the largest by one person so far, but he said he would tap his friends to help raise the $2 million the zoo needs.
