Officer Convicted of Killing French Reporter
From Times Wire Reports
A civilian court convicted a police officer of killing a French radio reporter in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, and ordered him imprisoned for 17 years. “I’m innocent, I’m innocent!” shouted the handcuffed policeman, Sgt. Theodore Sery Dago. His lawyers said they planned to appeal.
The reporter for Radio France Internationale, Jean Helene, 50, was shot in the head Oct. 21 as he waited outside police headquarters to interview jailed opposition figures.
