Ex-Education Minister Sentenced in Genocide
From Times Wire Reports
A United Nations tribunal in Arusha, Tanzania, sentenced a former Rwandan education minister to life in prison for his role in the 1994 genocide that killed more than 800,000 people.
Judge William Sekule said the tribunal found Jean de Dieu Kamuhanda, 51, guilty of genocide and extermination.
Witnesses described seeing Kamuhanda arrive at a church in Gikomero with armed militiamen who killed Tutsis who had taken refuge there. Sekule rejected Kamuhanda’s alibi that he was in Kigali when the massacres occurred.
