Rancho Cucamonga was tied by unheralded Rancho Cucamonga Los Osos, 1-1, in its only game last week. But it’s hard to drop the Cougars out of the top spot after Fountain Valley was beaten by Los Alamitos on Wednesday and Anaheim Esperanza lost to Huntington Beach Edison on Friday.

GIRLS’ SOCCER
Top-ranked San Clemente handily took down Mission Viejo, 5-0, last Tuesday. Santa Margarita received a scare from Santa Ana Mater Dei on Thursday but came away with a 1-1 tie. The hottest teams coming into this week are Arcadia, which handed Pasadena La Salle its first loss, 2-1, on Saturday, and Fullerton Sunny Hills, which has 15 shutouts.

Santa Ana Calvary Chapel scored only 95 points and finished a disappointing ninth at the Five Counties Invitational on Saturday. Covina Northview proved it’s the best all-around team in the Southland when it scored 107 points and placed seventh, highest among Southern Section schools.

Santa Barbara, which on Saturday won the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions for the second time, takes over the top spot. Newport Harbor, which twice beat former No. 1 Santa Ana Foothill but has yet to solve Santa Barbara, moves to No. 2, followed by Foothill, the third-place finisher in the Santa Barbara tournament. Long Beach Wilson, fourth in Santa Barbara, takes over the No. 4 spot.
