Norman to Play Riviera
Greg Norman said Monday that he plans to make a rare appearance at Riviera Country Club for the Nissan Open next month.
Norman, playing in a tournament at MountainGate Country Club to kick off Australia Week, said he would play 12 to 15 tournaments this year, up from the seven he played last year, and his season would begin Feb. 12 at Riviera.
“I’ve got that on my tentative schedule,” he said. “I love Riviera. I’ve heard they made some changes to it so I’m looking forward to coming. Normally I’m always in Australia during that time, but this time my schedule allows me to take a look at playing that.”
Norman is known for skipping the West Coast swing and starting his season in Florida most years. He hasn’t played the Nissan Open since 1985. He played at Riviera in the 1983 and ’95 PGA Championships.
He will be in Southern California that week to check on the progress of Oakcrest Golf Club, a course he designed in Chino Hills.
