The Bus Rider, Briefly
Re “Working Mom Gets On and Off Commuter Bus,” Jan. 13: Pity poor Sharon Bernstein that her experiment in being in a one-car family proved to be so inconvenient that she had to bite the bullet and re-acquire a second car. She wanted to find out firsthand what regular public transportation users go through every day and discovered that -- horrors! -- it means mile-long walks and missed appointments and grocery store trips that turn into daylong outings. If only the lesson she drew for her readers had truly been a greater appreciation for the travails of her fellow Angelenos who cannot afford even one car, rather than how wonderful it is to have two.
