Arson Fire Leaves 50 Tenants Homeless
From Times Staff Reports
An arson fire gutted the top floor of an apartment building Sunday, damaging 20 units, but all residents escaped without injury, authorities said.
Fifty people were left homeless after the blaze at 150 N. Soto St., said Jim Wells, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department. The fire started at 11:40 p.m. and was extinguished about half an hour later, he said.
The fire apparently was concentrated in the attic of the three-story, 60-unit complex, Wells said. Damage was estimated at $220,000.
