Attorney Files Petition To Halt Gay Marriages

The effort to stop San Francisco’s same-sex marriages accelerated Thursday when an attorney opposed to the unions filed a petition with the state attorney general demanding that Mayor Gavin Newsom and county Clerk Nancy Alfaro be removed from office.
The filing by Richard Ackerman also asked that Atty. Gen. Bill Lockyer turn the matter over to the federal government and that Lockyer, too, be removed from office.
