What I’m Drinking

Rosada
Here Lounge, 696 N. Robertson Blvd., West Hollywood, $9.50
Sofia Coppola is more than just another Oscar-nominated filmmaker, she’s the inspiration for Sofia Blanc de Blancs, a sparkling wine produced by her father -- winery owner and Oscar-winning director Francis Ford Coppola. No champagne wannabe, it’s a fragrant and slightly sweet blend of Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscat Canelli. Sofia has already caught on with the film crowd: It’s the house bubbly at the Graciela Burbank, a luxury hotel that caters to the movie industry. There, it’s served from a bottle, but it’s also available (as Sofia Mini) in tiny pink cans -- think Red Bull meets Napa Valley -- complete with a small straw attached to the side. At retail outlets, the Sofia Mini comes in an elegant pink box holding four cans ($19.95 suggested retail), but they’re sold individually in bars.
Here Lounge in WeHo has created the Rosada (“pink” in Spanish), mixing one can of Sofia with a splash of Red Passion Alize in a champagne flute. The result is a pink libation reminiscent of a Kir Royale dosed with extra sugar. It’s available now but debuts officially during L.A. Shanti’s Oscar party at Here, as the featured house drink.
