Authorities Uncover Two Credit Card Fraud Rings

Police have uncovered two fraud rings that recruited workers at San Francisco Bay Area restaurants and paid them to slide customers’ cards through a small device that secretly recorded account numbers.
Authorities this week announced the results of the investigation, which has led to criminal charges against 14 people in recent months.
Police Det. Ken Munson said the alleged ringleaders -- David Plunkett, 24, and Taurice Jourdan, 25, both of San Jose -- used hundreds of stolen account numbers to manufacture counterfeit cards, and then charged as much as $400,000 in merchandise.
