Crews Rush to Aid Driver After Plunge Into Canyon

Emergency crews late Thursday night were attempting to rescue a woman whose car plummeted more than 400 feet down Malibu Canyon and who called 911 on her cell phone.
The accident occurred about 10:30 p.m. two miles north of Pacific Coast Highway, and apparently involved just one vehicle, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Steve Smith.
“We’ve got our mountain rescue teams rolling right now trying to get her out,” Smith said.
It was not clear what condition the woman was in after the accident, though she initially complained of a back injury.
By 11 p.m., sheriff’s deputies, the California Highway Patrol and county Fire Department crews were working to rescue her.
