A Man of Character

Re “A Working Knowledge of Life,” Feb. 13: [MTA employee] Arthur Winston “appears to be one of a kind”? I’ll say! He is undoubtedly a civic and national treasure. I suggest that the Los Angeles City Hall building be renamed for him, as a reminder to us all of those personal character traits that serve to transform a society into a civilization: integrity, diligence, loyalty, humility and indestructible self-respect in the face of all the insults and challenges life may offer.
The heroic anthem, “Fanfare for the Common Man,” by Aaron Copland, surely was composed with Winston in mind.
