Rep. Tauzin Gives Up Powerful House Post

Rep. W.J. “Billy” Tauzin (R-La.) resigned as chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, one of the most powerful positions in Congress, and announced that he would not seek reelection in the fall. His resignation is effective Feb. 16.
There had been speculation for months that he would leave, with his name surfacing as a potential head of lobbying groups for the drug and film industries.
