Airport Security Can Get Lost in the Crowd

Re “LAX Air Traffic Hits 9-Year Low,” Jan. 31: Can’t figure out why the use of LAX is down? Duh! Anyone who tried to transit the international terminal building over Christmas will never ever want to do that again. Traffic backed up on the 105 Freeway for a mile to get through a security checkpoint, 45 minutes or more just to get to the airport; several lines over an hour each, one going outside and down to the American Airlines terminal. Normal times of the year are also atrocious. I am sure that Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge, Mayor James Hahn and Atty. Gen. John Ashcroft never have to put up with it. If they ever did, it would all change. I am also sure that such a madhouse provides little added security.
