Flap Over Halftime Show at Super Bowl
During the Super Bowl broadcast, CBS wasn’t willing to air the MoveOn.org advertisement showing young children working various jobs to pay off America’s ever-expanding deficit, but it was willing to repeatedly display a burger-eating, scantily clad woman riding a mechanical bull in slow motion, and expose Janet Jackson’s naked breast. Maybe if MoveOn.org had clothed its child actors in less clothing, CBS would have thought twice before rejecting the advertisement. And we are told not to worry that the Federal Communications Commission is permitting more and more consolidation of the media into fewer and fewer hands.

It’s amazing to me that American television networks routinely show blood, guts and body counts in the hundreds and barely a peep is uttered. But show (on a wide shot, mind you) one exposed female breast for a fraction of a second? Run everyone, the sky is falling!

I find it ironic that those people who found it hard to explain Jackson’s breast to their 9-year-old kid had no problem explaining the booze and drug commercials throughout the game.

Was it just me, or was anyone else in this country appalled at Kid Rock showing up at the Super Bowl halftime show with an American flag that had a slit cut into it so he could wear it as a poncho? As an American service member serving overseas I was -- and still am -- absolutely outraged. Kid visited our base here in Germany last year, but if I ever hear of him coming over here again, I will do everything within my power to make sure he knows that he is not welcome.
