Italian tenor Giuseppe di Stefano is slowly recovering from serious injuries he suffered in an attack at his family’s villa in Kenya, hospital officials said.
Di Stefano, 83, returned to Italy last week and is hospitalized in Milan. He is no longer in a coma, an official at the San Raffaele hospital said Monday. No other details were released.
The retired tenor was struck in the head during a Nov. 30 attack by unidentified assailants at his house in Diani, about 270 miles southeast of Nairobi. He was injured while trying to defend his wife as the assailants tried to steal her necklace. His wife needed 16 stitches.
