A man was killed and a woman seriously injured in a head-on collision Tuesday on California 126 near Piru, the California Highway Patrol said.
The two-car crash occurred shortly after 3 p.m. east of Center Street, authorities said.
Details about the victims were not immediately released, but authorities said the man lost control of his Ford Taurus while driving east and swerved into oncoming traffic. He was pronounced dead at the scene, said CHP spokesman Steve Reid.
The woman, who was driving west in a Dodge Neon, was taken by helicopter to Ventura County Medical Center with major injuries, Reid said.
Neither car had passengers, he said.
All lanes of traffic were shut down for about 20 minutes to allow the helicopter to land, Reid said. The highway later reopened with one lane in each direction.
Although it was raining at the time of the collision, the cause of the crash has not been determined, Reid said.
