Girl, 6, Is Killed Crossing Street in Garden Grove
An unescorted 6-year-old girl died Monday after being struck by a minivan while crossing a Garden Grove street.
Police did not release her name.
The accident occurred about 5 p.m. as the girl was crossing Kerry Street near Westminster Avenue, according to Sgt. Kevin LaCroix, a spokesman for the Garden Grove Police Department.
“She hesitated at the center divider before running into the path of an oncoming car,” LaCroix said.
The girl was pronounced dead at UCI Medical Center in Orange, he said.
The driver of the Mazda minivan was traveling at a legal speed and did not appear to be intoxicated, according to LaCroix.
Police are investigating the cause of the accident and why the child was unsupervised, he said.
