Ballistic Angel Is in Heaven
Something about Del Mar has agreed with Ballistic Angel.
A loser of 21 of 22 starts when she arrived at the beach, the 4-year-old Unusual Heat filly has gone two for two for owner Bob Bone and trainer Jeff Mullins.
Ballistic Angel will try to run her win streak to three when she meets nine other fillies and mares in the seventh, a one-mile $58,000 allowance.
Claimed for $40,000 by her current connections on July 9 at Hollywood Park, the California-bred finished second in her first for Bone and Mullins, losing to the Mullins-trained Jazz Ya in a 5 1/2 -furlong sprint on July 16 in Inglewood.
In her Del Mar bow on Aug. 4, Ballistic Angel was stretched out to 1 1/16 miles and won by five lengths under regular rider Kerwin John. Brought back two weeks later, she won by 1 1/2 lengths.
Race of the day: Personal Legend, who won the restricted De La Rose Stakes in her Saratoga debut on Aug. 11, will meet Sand Springs, Ocean Drive, Delta Princess and six others in the $200,000 Ballston Spa Breeders’ Cup Handicap at 1 1/16 miles. Jerry Bailey will ride Personal Legend for owner Ed Gann and trainer Bobby Frankel.
One for the road: Thrillin Discovery gets a two-level bump in class after being claimed by trainer Luis Olivares on Aug. 7 and can earn his 19th career victory in today’s eighth at Calder.
Exotically speaking: A pick three using Bull Headed Wynn, Astonished and Pragmatico in the first, Swiss Ladybug, Hainesome Gal and She Will Get Away in the second and Tender Teen in the third.
Winners: Previous day/meet total: 3/92. Money: Previous day/meet total: $25.60/$499. Total money bet: $598.
