Lost Experience

Re “Term Limits Throw Away Decades of Expertise,” Aug. 26: It becomes more and more clear how Californians shot themselves in the foot with the term-limits initiative. Good services are not free, but the voters seem to want nothing but amateurs at work, and they are doomed to get the poor quality they deserve.
We are now faced with a governor who thinks we don’t even need a full-time Legislature, and the amateurs who get elected will increasingly fulfill the self-fulfilling prophecy of low quality. Good legislators become so through experience, and we have lost some very good ones, and now more.
