Oversized Buses on Overcrowded Roads
Re “Bus Riders Organization Asks That MTA Be Fined,” Aug. 25: The Bus Riders Union is complaining again about overcrowded buses. I wish its members would get a car and start driving. The car drivers are paying most of the upkeep of the highways through gas taxes, license fees, etc., and the driving is getting more crowded every year.
The wide MTA buses actually make it very difficult to pass them on many roads, causing a slowdown in traffic. Buses have blind spots that make it difficult for their drivers to see small cars. More buses would only aggravate the situation. The bus riders should quit complaining and appreciate the fact that most of the cost of bus fares is paid by others.
