Demolition to Begin on Illegally Built Homes

Demolition of most of the 39 homes illegally built on a remote Sacramento River delta island will get underway now that the owners have conceded to Contra Costa County’s demand that they be removed.
Residents lost an appeal of the county’s removal order this year, and most have agreed to pay a contractor to remove the homes, docks and decks that are mostly weekend sanctuaries.
