Charley Boosts New Jobless-Benefit Filings

The ranks of Americans filing initial claims for unemployment compensation rose more than expected last week, swelled in part by the devastation from Hurricane Charley.
Initial jobless claims, a rough guide to the pace of U.S. layoffs, rose 10,000 to 343,000 from an upwardly revised 333,000 the week before, the Labor Department said.
