Deputies Fatally Shoot Man in Pico Rivera Confrontation

Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies shot and killed a 29-year-old man who threatened them with a board, ignored pepper spray and got behind the wheel of a patrol car, officials said Wednesday.
The shooting occurred about 11 p.m. Tuesday in Pico Rivera when deputies came across the shirtless man on a loading dock while looking for a hit-and-run suspect, Deputy Steve Suzuki said. The man was carrying a board as deputies approached him.
They confronted him and he started screaming and cursing, Suzuki said.
He was ordered to drop the board, but instead he allegedly charged the deputies and struck one of the patrol cars.
The deputies then tried to subdue the man with pepper spray, but he got into a patrol car that had been left running, Suzuki said. He drove it toward one deputy, who fired several times.
The man then stopped, put the car in reverse, rammed a parked truck and revved the engine, Suzuki said. The deputies thought he was going to hit them with the patrol car and opened fire, killing the man, Suzuki said.
His identity was being withheld until relatives could be notified.
