L-3, InVision Detectors to Be Tested at Airports

Bomb-detection equipment made by L-3 Communications Holdings Inc. and InVision Technologies Inc. to check passenger luggage will be part of a federal pilot program for testing commercial airliner cargo at a select number of airports, the companies said.
Most baggage is screened for explosives on passenger planes, but loose commercial cargo items such as manufactured components, individual packages and small parcels are not, leading to calls for additional screening.
L-3 shares rose $1.27 to $61.32 on the NYSE, while InVision gained 29 cents to $46.84 on Nasdaq.
