249,000 Evacuated as Typhoon Approaches
From Times Wire Reports
China evacuated 249,000 people from coastal areas and ordered about 31,000 fishing boats back to port as it prepared for Typhoon Aere, which has already killed at least five people in Taiwan and two in Japan, the official New China News Agency said.
Aere, which means “storm” in the language spoken on the Marshall Islands, was expected to hit Zhejiang province, south of Shanghai.
The area is still repairing damage from Typhoon Rananim, which killed at least 164 people this month.
