Steve Thompson
The Times’ excellent obituary for Steve Thompson (Aug. 18) was a fitting tribute to this bright, ethical and dedicated champion for better healthcare for all Californians.
The absolute high point of my tenure as the California Medical Assn.’s CEO was meeting Steve, recruiting him and ultimately prevailing upon him to join our staff as chief lobbyist in early 1992. It took some doing, because initially Steve felt he was loyally bound to remain with the Assembly Office of Research. It was a great day not only for CMA and physicians but, more important, for the people of California.
My friend left our state a far better place than he found it. He will be missed.
