Where’s ‘halo’?

In a town where history is simply yesterday’s news and wrecking-ball mania could qualify as an Olympic competition, it is nice to see that in the reconstruction of the Hollywood Bowl some reverence was paid, at least in theory, to the past [“Opinions From the Back Row” by Diane Haithman, Aug. 1]. A version of the shell remains.

What I take issue with is the visual execution of the Hodgetts and Fung “halo.” What is presented in promotional literature bears little if any resemblance to the reality. Where’s the “halo,” dude? It is clearly in the publicity shot. A ring of light gently encircling the stage.

In reality, we are more likely to find Waldo than any sign of the apocryphal “halo”; a heavy cluttered ring of darkness hovers over the orchestra.
