SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Just as the Conejo Valley Little League team from Thousand Oaks prepared to take the field Friday night for its opening game of the Little League World Series, it began to rain.
After 45 minutes, Little League officials decided to postpone the pool-play game against Lincoln, R.I., until Tuesday at 7 a.m. PST.
Conejo Valley, which arrived in South Williamsport on Tuesday, won’t play its opening game until Sunday against Morganton, N.C. Conejo Valley is scheduled off today, Lincoln has an off day Sunday and both teams play different opponents Monday.
Little League spokesman Lance Van Auken said there wasn’t any choice when to schedule the makeup game.
“We didn’t want either team to have to play a doubleheader,” Van Auken said. “To be able to push this game back to Tuesday is one of the luxuries of pool play because it doesn’t matter if they play other games between now and then.”
The tournament began earlier Friday with Morgantown defeating Davenport, Iowa, Northwest, 10-4. In the International Division, Panama City defeated Ottawa, Canada, 12-2.
