Farmed Raw Oysters May Be Contaminated

State health officials warned that raw oysters harvested from a Carlsbad aqua farm may be contaminated with a bacterium that can cause severe stomach illness and should not be eaten. The owner of Carlsbad Aquafarm, however, said Thursday that all the affected oysters had been recalled.
State Public Health Officer Dr. Richard Joseph Jackson warned the oysters may contain the Vibrio parahaemolyticus bacterium, which can cause diarrhea, abdominal cramps, nausea and other ailments.
