UCLA gift: The estate of Azadia Mamoulian, the widow of famed film director Rouben Mamoulian, has donated $1.1 million to the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television to establish an endowed chair in theater and movie directing.

‘Smile’ doc: Showtime has set Oct. 5 for the premiere of “Beautiful Dreamer: Brian Wilson and the Story of ‘Smile,’ ” a documentary about the former Beach Boys composer’s efforts last year to complete an album he’d begun work on 37 years earlier.

Carrying on: Musica Angelica, a Santa Monica-based early music group, says it will continue to perform despite the death last week of its artistic director and co-founder, Michael Eagan. The group will hold a memorial concert for him at All Saints’ church in Beverly Hills on Sept. 1.
