Plans to Kill Coyotes in Hope Ranch Dropped

Homeowners in Hope Ranch have dropped plans to kill coyotes.
Responding to heated opposition, the Hope Ranch Assn. on Thursday reversed its July decision to pay a private trapper $2,500 to eliminate the animals. About 40 people showed up for the association’s meeting to voice opposition to the coyote kill.
“Killing doesn’t have to be the answer,” said Alexandra Leslie, who walks regularly in Hope Ranch.
“I’ve never been inconvenienced by wild creatures,” said Margie Reinhart. “I think they are wonderful.”
The board said it would educate residents about alternatives. Strategies for warding off the predators include bringing pets -- and their food -- inside after dark, removing overripe fruit from the yard and building “coyote-proof” fences.
