Imax Profit Increases 60% in 2nd Quarter

Imax Corp., a maker of big-screen movie systems, reported a 60% jump in second-quarter profit and said it struck sales deals with two major theater chains, triggering a jump in its shares.
The Canadian company announced a deal to sell as many as 18 Imax theater systems to National Amusements, North America’s sixth-largest theater operator, as well as a contract with Cinemark USA for two theater installations.
Imax shares rose 25 cents, or 5.7%, to $4.63 on Nasdaq.
